Band Class

After four years of summer band camps, I’m thrilled to make this a year-round activity!
In Mountain Boogie Band Class (and camps), students explore a wide range of styles—from blues and rock to hip hop, country, and pop. Classes are a joyful celebration of learning to play music in all its shapes and sizes!
Geared toward students of all skill levels* (including those with no prior musical experience), instrument parts start in their simplest form and can be made more challenging as each student progresses. This approach allows us to start playing together right away, and as students improve, we can turn up the complexity and rock even harder!

Class Structure
-
Opening (5–15 minutes): Fun group activities that will mainly focus on rhythm and group timing, but also will work on learning about music gear, note reading, ear training, and various other pieces of information good to know about if you are in a band. Many of these topics will include take-home materials for extra study.
-
Practice Block I (30-45 minutes): Students learn their individual parts and then begin to work as a group on the first song of the day. Songs will be a mixture of important songs from Rock, Blues, Country, Hip Hop, etc. along with students picks from their song lists.
-
Song Sharing and Music History (15-20 minutes): Using the songs from the lists the students fill out, we will play musical get to know you games, watch live performances, and discuss the historical context when these songs were released.
-
Practice Block II (30–45 minutes): Students learn their individual parts and then begin to work as a group on the 2nd song of the day.
-
Closing (10-15 minutes): Students will run through songs from previous sessions.
Senior Band Camp (ages 11-16) final performance summer 2025

The Gear
-
Instruments: Keyboards, a full-size electric guitar, a full-size acoustic classical guitar, a youth-sized electric bass, an adult 5-string electric bass, an acoustic drum kit, an electric drum kit, and vocal microphones are all available at the studio. You’re welcome to bring your own instrument if you prefer; however, please note that the studio cannot be held liable for any damage to personal instruments.
-
Headphones: Closed-back, over-ear headphones will be provided (wireless headphones usually have too much latency). Students are welcome to bring their own wired headphones if they prefer. Unlike past band camps, each instrument will have its own headphone connection, allowing for silent practice while students learn their individual parts. Once everyone is ready to play together, we’ll switch to speakers for a full-band experience.
